Turkey and a Rock Star Moment...

I am now down more than twenty pounds and feeling fabulous about it. I have been pretty good about my goal of exercising every day. Even if I don’t get on the treadmill every day, I’ve done some sort of physical movement. It shames me to say that I haven’t been quite so good about cutting back on soda and getting more sleep. Unfortunately, my stress level has been absurdly high lately and I’m letting my focus slip. So I am calling myself out, and telling myself that I need to concentrate harder on what I want to achieve.
With the upcoming holiday season fast approaching, it can be all too easy to get lost in indulgence. Thanksgiving and Christmas are built for gluttony. When I first started doing Weight Watchers in September, I thought that perhaps I would leave those days blank on my Points Tracker. Since then, I have had a change of heart and decided instead to still enjoy the holidays and the food, but be reasonable about it. Basically, don’t eat myself into a food coma, and I will put a bowl of salad on the table so I can always fill up on veggies first to avoid second (and who we kidding, third) helpings of potato filling and turkey.
I did, however, see some delicious-looking-yet-healthy recipes for leftovers. Hopefully, I can try one or two out. I also love the abundance of pumpkin and gingerbread flavored foods this time of year, and I have been actively looking for healthier ways to get my fixes of these flavors. Smack dab in the middle of Amish territory, the temptation of baked goods can be overwhelming (if you are not on a diet, go eat pumpkin cookies from Shady Maple; they are to die for). Thankfully, I have resisted everything save for my gingerbread latte from Starbucks, but I have been getting a tall, nonfat decaf latte and not going nearly as often.
In my last entry, I mentioned that I had a meet and greet with the Goo Goo Dolls. Well, once they again the guys didn’t disappoint. Although the meet and greet was far shorter than I would have liked, the room radiated with their energy, they were all smiles and John and Robby actually met me halfway as I walked up to shake their hands. I was able to engage Mike in a bit of conversation, as I had noticed something he wrote on Facebook regarding his activities earlier in the day. So it was an excellent moment for me, and the concert was so lively and energetic and one of the best that I had attended. I think I’ve seen them nine times, the first time in 2000 when I was fourteen-years-old, and I’ve loved them even longer. Most people nowadays know of my obsessive love for GACKT, but the Goo Goo Dolls? They were my first passionate music love.
(From left to right, that’s Robby Takac, John Rzeznik and Mike Malinin. I am assuming I do not need to point out which person in the picture is me.)
(Aside: This is also the most flattering picture of me with the band. I may be a big girl, but this big girl felt very cute that day!)
With that, it’s off to plot my next adventure in weight loss.
